As many times as I’ve driven on Highway 35 by the trail sign to Tamanawas Falls, I never took the hike until this year.
What a treat. Tamanawas has a spectacular 150-foot drop with a wide wall of water. It’s very similar to many of the great Gorge waterfalls.
To add variety to the outing, I made it into a nine-mile loop hike by heading up Lamberson Spur and then returning by the Polallie Overlook.
A fun outing indeed.

wow – your first time at tamanawas! I am so glad you finally got there! It can make a nice snowshoe too.
It would make a fun snowshoe hike, especially when the waterfall is covered in ice.
Been decades since I last hiked in there. First time was on snow shoes in April (not my idea, but we did it). Always a wonderful experience.

I also haven’t hiked this yet–thanks for the nudge. That loop sounds great–did you have any difficult creek crossings? Was the trail in good shape?
The trail to the waterfall is in great shape with footbridges over the creeks. The loop by the Polallie Overlook is also in good shape. However, the trail up Lamberson Spur is covered with blowdowns. I turned around after about one mile.
