The 30-mile drive from Joseph to Imnaha is always a treat. The Imnaha Store is a well-known landmark in northeastern Oregon dating back to 1904.
After visiting the store I drove back to the 6,500-foot Tenderfoot Trailhead near Salt Creek Summit.
The first couple of miles were a pleasant ascent through a series of open meadows. The next mile was a steep climb to the top of the headbasin of the drainage.
Now I was on the Imnaha Divide with the North Fork Imnaha River Basin on the left and the Middle Fork Sheep Creek Basin on the right. Soon I was at 8,000 feet with some colorful pussytoes and white bark pine for company.
It truly felt like I was on top of the world. The Eagle Cap Wilderness is a great place to visit and hike.
