First weekend of October with not a cloud in the sky.
Before leaving home the raucous honking of a skein of geese flying south could plainly be heard.
In a couple of hours I was at the edge of a large sub-alpine meadow south of Mt. Hood.
My first destination was Little Crater Lake, 100 feet wide, 45 feet deep and crystal blue to its very bottom where an artesian spring feeds the lake.
Another one-quarter mile led to an intersection with the Pacific Crest Trail. Turning north, I began a counter-clockwise 12-mile loop hike around picturesque Timothy Lake.
The magnificent view of Mt. Hood over Timothy Lake has been one of the iconic scenes of the Pacific Northwest for many a year.
The scarlet leaves of vine maple trees highlighted the views along the trail bringing smiles to my face. Life continues to be good.
Great hike – Debbie and I did it earlier this summer. I don’t know what day that you took the pictures – Sat or Sun, on Sunday Debbie and I were out kayaking on Timothy Lake for about 3 hours. It was a beautiful afternoon, the lake was very tranquil and there was very few people there.

I also did the hike earlier this year on a hot summer weekend day.
It’s a much nicer hike in the fall when the leaves are turning color. In a couple of more weeks the tamarack needles will be turning golden too.
Hi John,
Once again your pictures warm my heart. Me going to Portland on November 1st is looking less likely I that Pat is having health problems plus a bad back with surgery sometime in early November. I’ll keep you informed.
Thanks & God Bless
