Young Eagles on the Nest

The roughly three-mile hike around Oak Island is always inviting during the spring and early summer.

Located nearby on Sauvie Island, it’s a grand place to spot songbirds and wildflowers.

Even better, it has a bald eagle’s nest high in an oak tree near the trail.

An adult was standing guard high in the tree when we arrived. In the huge nest several eaglets were visible flapping their wings.

Soon the young eaglets will be flying and a new cycle of life will begin.
