Cold east winds howling out of the Columbia River Gorge bringing below-freezing temperatures to the city.
Warm, moisture-filled clouds bringing heavy rain to the City.
Mix the two together and picturesque silver frost was the result.
The freezing rain builds up layers of ice on streets, trees, bushes, power lines and homes. The result is both beautiful and dangerous.
The beauty is in the crystalline structures formed by the ice layers, especially when the sun finally breads through the clouds.
The danger comes when branches heavily coated in ice break off under the heavy weight, power lines fall and roads turn into a sheet of impassible ice.
I’m with Kiki on this matter. Sandy
