It was a cold December day.  There was snow on the ground and concrete skies above.

A day to take an interesting hike around marshy, wildlife-rich Virginia Lake.

Small birds, mainly song sparrows and spotted towhees, were out searching for food. And, many skeins of raucous geese were flying high above.

The treat of the outing was seeing a group of Sandhill Cranes. Several were “dancing” or sparing as they fed in a nearby field.

I couldn’t help but think of Sissy Hankshaw when seeing the Cranes dancing. Yes, Even Cowgirls get the Blues.
