Headlight Creek Basin

The Alpine Lakes Wilderness is a world-famous destination for alpine hikers and climbers. It’s home to the Enchantments, Spectacle Lake, Little Annapurna and much more.

On a nice summer day I hiked into Headlight Creek Basin, a beautiful parkland with cold streams and delightful campgrounds.

The trail began in the upper basin of the North Fork of the Teanaway River. After gaining 2,300 feel of elevation in three miles I reached Ingalls Pass at 6,500 feet.

The scenery was dominated by 9,415-foot Mt. Steward, the highest peak in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Soon I was hiking down into Headlight Creek Basin where I found a grand viewpoint for taking a break and having lunch.

If I would have felt better (I was recovering from some type of stomach flu), I would have hiked for another mile to Ingalls Lake. The lake is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Washington State.

But this day I was content to enjoy the beautiful scenery from Headlight Creek Basin.
