Twin Lakes
On a cool, but pleasant morning I drove to the 3,900-foot Wapinita Pass Trailhead south of Mt. Hood.
Heading north on the Pacific Crest Trail, I soon reached the turnoff for Lower and Upper Twin Lakes.
The lakes were pleasant as usual with folks camping at each of them. By the time I reached Upper Twin Lake the sky was crystal clear giving me a nice view of Mt. Hood reflected in the lake.
After leaving the upper lake, I continued on the 9 1/2-mile loop. The next stop was 4,450-foot Palmateer Point.
It didn’t take much of an imagination to see the settlers in their wagons passing underneath Palmateer Point to Barlow Pass, and the final descent to the Willamette Valley.

Delightful! Colorful wildflowers. Surreal takes of Barlow Butte and Mt. Hood from Palmateer Point – the deep green and hazy clouds make them seem dream-like. Great job, John. Always love seeing your work!

Yes!!! 🙂 When it gets a bit cooler. I will be in Tahoe this weekend and am looking forward to seeing what my camera captures there. Did you know that Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the US – I’m sure you’ve seen and photographed the first. 🙂
Good stuff. It is always wonderful to get different hike ideas with so many trails closed in the Gorge.
