Wizard Falls

The Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery makes a fine starting point for a six-mile loop hike on the Metolius River via the Lower Bridge.

The River in itself is amazing. It begins a few miles south emerging from basalt rock at 50,000 gallons per minute.

About one mile into the hike I reached Allen Springs, a miniature version of the beginning of the Metolius River. The large springs emerge out of basalt rock and immediately empty into the river.

On my hike I saw quite a few fly fishermen. The Melolius is a world-renowned fly fishing river.

But, the crowning jewel of the hike was the autumn foliage along the river that had turned to golds, oranges and reds.

I slowed my pace and enjoyed every step of the outing.

  1. Beautiful rushing river! Can you hear it as you walk up to it – the water flowing rapidly on its way? The autumn colors frame the river just so perfectly. Love to go with you on your adventures. 🙂

  2. Some beautiful autumn colors there!
