Central Oregon

I visited North-central Oregon in February. Taking a break from hiking, I spent one sunny day doing a loop drive through Maupin and Fossil.

The Clarno Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument was a highlight.

Driving north of Fossil and heading back to The Dalles, the rock formations were amazing.

What a grand part of the world!

The Pinnacles at the Clarno Unit

Part of the fossil beds of the Clarno Unit (Do you see the fossils? Could they be leaves?)

Abandoned barn near Clarno

Natural arch in the Palisades

One lonely Juniper tree in the Palisades area

The homesteader (or is it an abandoned school/church) had a great view

One of the well-maintained trails in the Clarno Unit

More fossilized rock

An ubiquitous sight in the Wasco area
