Humbug Mountain
The afternoon would be filled with the Superbowl. I decided to get up early and drive Highway 26 toward the Coast. It was a stormy day with a few patches on snow remaining along the road.

I parked near a locked gate on a logging road. The area is accessible to hikers by a free recreational permit.
It is not a very long hike to the summit of Humbug Mountain, less than three miles. The hike follows logging roads for its entire length. But, it is steep and rocky in places.
The hike ended after a short climb to the 2,500-foot summit with an enclosure and microwave equipment. I would have been treated to some of the best views in Northwest Oregon, but I was smack dab in the middle of a cloud bank. In fact, it was cloudy, cold and drizzly for the entire hike. I felt like I was trying to take photos on a film noir set.
As usual, it gives me an excuse to return soon.
