Portland
Late in March we took advantage of some sunshine and drove to Southeast Portland to spend several hours at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.
More than 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas and companion plants grow in the Garden. We have found they provide a magnificent display of color early in the year.
However, if you are planning to visit the Garden to see the rhododendrons at their finest, I would recommend waiting for early May.
Spring-fed Crystal Springs Lake surrounds much of the Garden attracting many species of waterfowl and animals too.

Canada geese and mallard ducks kept us company as we wandered through the Garden.
We were surprised to see early trillium and trout lilies in bloom, both indigenous to the area.
Visiting the Garden reminded me of a valuable secret: Beauty is all around us if we just take the time to look.

Beautiful! I’m putting that on my travel list. It’s a 6 hr drive for me so I’ll fit it in with something else.
