From Twisp to Lookout Mountain

Fire Lookout Site

In the late aughts I took a summertime vacation trip to Northcentral Washington. While visiting old friend George in Twisp, we decided to drive to a trailhead about six miles south of his home.

The hike was relatively short, but steep, to the top of 5,500-foot Lookout Mountain. An old fire lookout site was still standing. I’ve heard the lookout facility can now be rented for overnight stays.

Lake Chelan/Sawtooth Wilderness

The 360° vista was spectacular. High, rugged mountain peaks were visible in all directions. Especially interesting were the peaks in the Lake Chelan/Sawtooth Wilderness to the west.

After returning to Twisp, it was a short trip to Winthrop to enjoy the sights. I graduated from high school only 45 miles away. The visit brought back many great memories.
