From a Sparrow to a Bald Eagle

By mid-December, maple trees and other hardwoods have lost their leaves. Their autumn colors are now strewn along the trails. The rains have returned and the winds are blowing. Snow is glistening on the foothills down to 2,000 feet. 

On nearby Sauvie Island bald eagles are easy to spot, as are sandhill cranes and Canada geese. Up in the Coastal Mountains the streams are running high from rainfall and small birds are working at finding food. And, in the Tualatin Hills the ponds are welcoming migratory birds.

What a great time of the year.
