It was 31 degrees with dense fog as I began a hike through the West Hills of Portland. But, to my surprise, the sun began breaking through. Soon it was nothing but sunshine.
Above a 1,000 feet the fog remained frozen on the brush along the trail, creating beautiful sculptures in white.
On Council Crest, Portland’s high point, I enjoyed the high volcanic peaks of the Cascades covered in several feet of new snow.
What a beautiful time of the year.
