Late Winter in Memaloose Hills

Columbia River Gorge

The Memaloose Hills (Marsh and Chatfield) lie west of the Rowena Plateau, accessible from the Memaloose Overlook parking area. It is classic oak-savannah in the east side of the Columbia River Gorge near the little town of Mosier.

In late winter there was a promise of many early wildflowers to be seen along the 3 1/2-mile hike to both Hills.

Wild Lilies

I was about three to four weeks early for the big wildflower show, but still had many colorful flowers to keep me entertained.

Only a few miles east of Hood River, this is a fine place to enjoy an outing.
