Lush Old-growth Forest along the Salmon River

Salmon River

Lush old-growth forest thrives along the banks of the Salmon River. Vivid, bright green licorice ferns drape the sides of damp, moss-covered cliffs. The air is thick with the rich, earthy aroma of wet soil beneath my feet, creating an immersive sensory experience.

Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness

The Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, situated southwest of Mt. Hood, boasts numerous scenic locations. Classic destinations include Wildcat Mountain, Huckleberry Mountain, Devils Peak, and Salmon Butte.

Today’s hike spanned 3.5 miles, leading to an expansive viewpoint over the Upper Salmon River Canyon. The experience was a feast for the senses.

Despite the gloomy, drizzly weather, the trek proved to be a delightful excursion. The challenging 1,300-foot elevation gain also offered a satisfying workout.
