A Wild Orchid in the West Hills of Portland?

Phantom Orchid

Spring in the Pacific Northwest is a truly captivating season. As the landscape awakens, urban trails transform into bustling corridors for local wildlife. Squirrels dart through the underbrush, rabbits graze in clearings, and songbirds fill the canopy with their melodic calls.

In early June, I was particularly delighted to encounter a rare phantom orchid in full bloom. Finding these wonders is always a highlight, especially above the 45th Parallel. It serves as a wonderful reminder of the hidden treasures that thrive throughout Oregon.

The bright blue skies highlight the beauty of the West Hills of Portland. Both the Maquam Nature Park and the Tryon Creek State Park are easily accessible with many trails to hike, providing an opportunity to witness the subtle shifts in the environment and appreciate the unique beauty of each day.
