Outing for Lizards, Grasshoppers and Turtles

Late August on a trip to Eastern Oregon we stopped at the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge to stretch our legs.

In the fall and winter the Refuge is home to thousands of migrating waterfowl. In the summer it’s home to lizards and grasshoppers.

We hikedĀ around the area for a couple of miles, worked up an appetite and enjoyed a nice picnic lunch while watching a couple of western pond turtles.

  1. How many miles of trails are in the refuge? Great (and inspiring) shots. Thanks.
