Late August on a trip to Eastern Oregon we stopped at the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge to stretch our legs.
In the fall and winter the Refuge is home to thousands of migrating waterfowl. In the summer it’s home to lizards and grasshoppers.
We hikedĀ around the area for a couple of miles, worked up an appetite and enjoyed a nice picnic lunch while watching a couple of western pond turtles.
How many miles of trails are in the refuge? Great (and inspiring) shots. Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words. The Refuge has a couple of miles of trail, mostly maintenance roads. In truth, it’s set up more for hunting migratory birds in the fall than hiking during the year.
