Bryce Canyon National Park Visit

To paraphrase Mr. Cruise, Bryce Canyon is a target-rich environment for photographers! Spectacular, colorful rock formations are visible from many vantage points. Neither photos nor words describe the unworldly beauty of the Park.

My friend Dan and I ventured to Bryce Canyon on April Fool’s Day a few years ago.

In the early morning, we drove to the end of Scenic Drive at Rainbow Point, elevation 9,100 feet. There was still some snow on the north-facing cliffs.

I proceeded to take photos from Rainbow, Sunrise, Sunset and other Points while returning along Scenic Drive.

The visual perspective is one of looking down at the soft limestone hoodoos glowing in shades of pinks, reds, yellows, oranges and creams.

  1. Took my breath away, John. Each photo is a work of art–the lighting, the expanse, the geological miracles. I would like to visit Bryce, and do so in the non-touristy months like you and Dan did…and you have just intensified that desire with this beautiful gallery, thank you. While I like all the photos so much, I was especially drawn by Photo #5 of the hoodoo close-up, the varying colors of the structure are interesting, the shapes, and then the tree on top–exquisite.

  3. We visited in 2009 and it is indeed a spectacular place. We were there in October and we had a bit of snow one morning. It was truly magical. Nice pics. (Suzanne)
