Blacktail Deer in an Urban Environment

It’s always enjoyable spotting deer. Every once in awhile in early morning hours I see them in neighborhood yards.

Usually by the time I’m out hiking in the West Hills above Portland, they have disappeared into the deep, wooded gulches to sleep the day away. But, not this day.

Hiking up the Marquam Trail to Council Crest, I spotted three in the underbrush. Due to the dense foliage, it was difficult to get a good photo. Their camouflage is excellent.

Still, I enjoyed watching them.
