First Wild Lily in Bloom

One of the joys of hiking in the early springtime is spotting the wildflowers coming into bloom. Only two weeks ago there was 10-12” inches of snow on the ground. Now some of the days are in the 60s with lots of sunshine.

On the second day of spring there were a few Indian Plums coming into bloom in the lower sections of Marquam Nature Park. I knew it wouldn’t be long until other early wildflowers were in bloom. And, sure enough, on my way down from Council Crest I found a Trillium, a wild lily, in full bloom.

As I say every year, when the first wildflower is seen, spring has begun. But, as I post this today, it is snowing outside my window. Maybe it isn’t quite springtime yet.
