Enjoying the Wild BIrds at the Tualatin River NWR

Great Blue Heron

Experience the beauty of the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, an exceptional urban sanctuary located just southwest of Portland, Oregon. Since 1992, dedicated efforts by the federal government and volunteers have successfully restored this vital floodplain in the Tualatin River Basin to its natural state.

On a beautiful spring day, we explored the refuge’s four-mile perimeter trail and were delighted by the incredible variety of bird species thriving in their habitat.

We were able to see great blue herons, bald eagles, egrets, ducks and various songbirds. The landscape was also filled with beautiful wildflowers, making the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge a wonderful place to visit.
