Coastal Mountains
On a late August day, I decided to take an outing to the Coastal Mountains.
L.L. “Stub” Stewart Memorial State Park was my destination. I always enjoy hiking its well-maintained trails.
The upper parking area is used primarily by equestrians, but it makes a good place for starting hikes too.

It’s a pleasant uphill hike to Unfit Settlement Viewpoint, which has become mostly overgrown. After turning downhill, I hiked to Skycar Viewpoint. From the Viewpoint, Boomscooter Pond can be seen in the woods below. To extend the outing, I continued hiking down to the pond. It was very pleasant.
To my surprise, leaves had been falling on the trail and vine maple leaves had began turning to their fall colors. It’s way too soon to be thinking about Fall! We still have another three weeks of summer left, don’t we?
