Meadow or Lake?

Virginia Lake

In early September I drove to Sauvie Island, stopping at the Virginia Lake Trailhead. It’s always an interesting hike, going around marshy, wildlife-rich Virginia Lake.

In the summer the lake mostly dries up and turns into a large grassy meadow.

Hadley Landing

A side trail visits Hadley’s Landing on the Multnomah Channel. There are usually boats tied up to a long dock, but this day the trail was blocked by a fallen tree. I was somewhat surprised, because volunteer crews typically keep the trails in great shape. And, sure enought, I ran into a trail crew on my way out.

A fun morning indeed.

  1. This was a pleasant hike, John, to the meadow/lake. Thanks for taking us along.

  2. Curious about the condition of the deer. Very scrawny. Do you know why they look like they’re starving?
