Virginia Lake
In early September I drove to Sauvie Island, stopping at the Virginia Lake Trailhead. It’s always an interesting hike, going around marshy, wildlife-rich Virginia Lake.
In the summer the lake mostly dries up and turns into a large grassy meadow.

Hadley Landing
A side trail visits Hadley’s Landing on the Multnomah Channel. There are usually boats tied up to a long dock, but this day the trail was blocked by a fallen tree. I was somewhat surprised, because volunteer crews typically keep the trails in great shape. And, sure enought, I ran into a trail crew on my way out.
A fun morning indeed.

Blacktail Deer has spotted Your Humble Scribe

This was a pleasant hike, John, to the meadow/lake. Thanks for taking us along.
Curious about the condition of the deer. Very scrawny. Do you know why they look like they’re starving?
I’m assuming it was sick or injured. Usually blacktail deer are in good shape in the fall.
