Coastal Mountains
In early Autumn I decided to take an outing to the Coastal Mountains.
L.L. “Stub” Stewart Memorial State Park was my destination. I always enjoy hiking its well-maintained trails.
The upper parking area is used primarily by equestrians, but it makes a good place for starting hikes too.

It’s a pleasant uphill hike to Unfit Settlement Viewpoint, which has become mostly overgrown. After turning downhill, I hiked to Skycar Viewpoint. From the Viewpoint, Boomscooter Pond can be seen in the woods below. To extend the outing, I continued hiking down to the pond. It was very pleasant.
There was a good collection of wildlife to see. Several deer kept me entertained for a while, as did squirrels and small songbirds.
