West Hills of Portland in Springtime

Urban Wildlife

There are many small canyons formed by seasonal creeks on the east side of the West Hills. Some of the bigger ones have been kept as publicly-owned greenways. The Marquam and other trails climb through these greenways to the high point of the West Hills on Council Crest.

I enjoy hiking these trails, hoping to spot songbirds, critters and other sights in early spring. Sometimes blacktail deer can be see, always drawing a smile to my face.
