Act I

The Dalles Mountain Ranch is part of the Columbia Hills Natural Area Preserve. It’s located at the east end of the Columbia River Gorge in an Oak Savannah environment.

On a sunny, but very windy mid-October day, I  explored the area for awhile. If the wind had been kinder, I would have hiked to the top of Stacker Butte.

The views were magnificent, with the Columbia River stretching far to the east, Mt. Jefferson sticking up to the south and beautiful lenticular clouds on the summit of Mt. Hood.

Act II

Several days later on another beautiful day, we visited Domaine Serene near Dundee to taste some wine on the outside deck and pick up our wine-club shipment to take home.

Over the years, the owners have done an amazing job with the winery. It’s a great place to visit and I highly recommend it.
