There was a cool breeze and drizzle at the Pacific Crest Trailhead south of Santiam Pass. A few elk hunters were camped nearby, but nothing much was moving.

I hiked for a ways to the south and was rewarded with spotting several mule deer in the area, including a healthy young buck.

I had hoped the clouds went break enough for good photos of the Central Oregon Peaks. But, it never happened on this trip.

Still, a truly enjoyable day in the wilderness.
