Garden

Springtime is a fine time to do some gardening. Looking to get mulch and flowers to plant, we went to the large garden department of a local store.

While admiring the colorful flowers in bloom, my eye caught a glimpse of a pretty white one in motion. To my surprise it was a butterfly.

It was my first butterfly of the year.

Cabbage White

After getting up close, I thought it was a Cabbage White. And, sure enough, Caitlin LaBar confirmed my identification. As I have mentioned before, Caitlin is a great resource and co-author of Butterflies of the Pacific Northwest, a terrific reference book with spectacular photos.
