A Very Dry Virginia Lake

On a cloudy day in August we drove to Sauvie Island, stopping at the Virginia Lake Trailhead. It’s always an interesting hike, going around marshy, wildlife-rich Virginia Lake.

In the summer the lake mostly dries up and turns into a large grassy meadow.

A side trail visits Hadley’s Landing on the Multnomah Channel. There are usually boats tied up to a long dock, but not this day. Although there was a bald eagle sitting in a tree overlooking the area.

A fun morning indeed.
