289-foot Elowah Falls

Columbia River Gorge

On a warm and sunny day I hiked to Elowah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. The trailhead is only a couple of miles from the Bonneville Dam. It’s a two-mile hike with a few hundred feet of elevation gain to the little-visited waterfall.

The trail climbed for awhile before leveling out with views far up and down the Columbia River. Soon the trail began a steep descent with switchbacks to the natural bowl beneath the 289-foot Falls. It’s located in a beautiful area with a torrent of water pouring off the lip of a high cliff. It’s one of the prettier waterfalls in the Gorge and it’s the second highest after Multnomah Falls.
