Cache Meadow, a Beautiful Sub-alpine Destination

Cache Meadow is a series of three large meadows with several small lakes. It looks like prime autumn elk habitat.

It lies at about 4,400 feet in the relatively new Roaring River Wilderness south of Mt. Hood.

On a loop hike by Serene Lake, I stopped and enjoyed the meadows for awhile.

There were bog orchids, monkshood, lupine and asters in bloom throughout the meadows. And, to my delight, there were yellow water lilies in bloom in one of the small ponds along the trail.
