Badger Creek Wilderness

School Canyon Trail

In late June I drove to the School Canyon Trailhead on the east side of the Badger Creek Wilderness. This is a very enjoyable mid-elevation hike.

It was an oak-savannah habitat with much sign of mule deer and a few elk. I stayed on the trail for several miles as  it climbed to Ball Point. The views of Mt. Jefferson were supurb, as was the long vistas over the farmlands of Central Oregon.

After enjoying the scenery I slowly returned to the trailhead hoping to see some critters. But, the animals stayed out of view. They were probably bedded down in the shade someplace.

It’s always a fun place to visit.
